Better than sassafras!

If I did tags on my lj entries, this lj entry would be tagged tea. Those of you who would not read an entry tagged tea, I suggest that you move on to the next entry.

I've been looking for sassafras tea for a long time. Back when I was doing my searching online, I couldn't find any product that would allow me to make herbal tea, just sassafras syrups that produced "tea" when added to hot water. But now, I've found an herbal tea mixture that tastes like it contains sassafras, but the complexity of the flavor creates a tea which tastes even better. It's called "Evening in Missoula" and according to its distributor, Tea Source, contains chamomile, rosehips, raspberry, papaya, peppermint, spearmint, strawberry leaf, vanilla, passion flower, red clover, star anise, and wild cherry bark. Wonderful!

Ohhhhh! That sounds absolutely wonderful! I'll have to look into it!

. . .

Plus, I must admit that I too have long wanted a sassafras tea. Although I must admit that part of my desire for one is because of the part it's played in Seer's Blood, etc. ;)

This looks like a pretty nice tea place. What are your favorite teas from here? They had several particularly nice looking black and green blends that I was looking at.

Would you say that the vanilla is dominant? This sounds yummy, but I've noticed that vanilla tends to overpower other flavors in tea, which I find unpleasant...

I'm a big fan of TeaSource, though I haven't been there lately. Plus, the one in Highland Park is right around the corner from a Half Price Books. It doesn't get much better than that.

I don't know why anyone likes those tea-flavored syrups.

The name of the tea sounds familiar, but I don't recall why. I don't think I've ever had it.

I actually haven't sampled anything else from Tea Source to my knowledge. I tried the tea at Muddy Paws, a cheesecake restaurant in Uptown, and it inspired me to go to my friendly local co-op, the Wedge, to find complex herbal teas. I was nicely surprised to find that the Wedge offered the same variety of tea.

I found the Tea Source website while trying to find a list of the ingredients that went into the tea for my lj entry. Tea Source must distribute to both places.

At this point I try to avoid any sort of caffeinated tea (except when I'm having my period, when it helps). This includes decaffeinated teas, so I'm afraid I won't be much help.

To my nose, the dominant smell is licorice. I don't really smell the vanilla in this mix.

Thanks for the tip!

Maybe you could answer Jissa's questions above about their black and green teas, although I know you are also of the avoiding caffeine contingent.

Hmmm, well I'm still thinking of looking into the tea from there, since I'm not a big fan of the tea places nearby me . . .

Thanks!
