May. 29th, 2003 09:46 amSo my father called up last night. Here's the beginning of the conversation, as I remember it:
Dad: So I'd like to talk to you about something serious.
E: OK. Sounds dire.
Dad: So what would you think if Linda and I eloped?
They haven't eloped yet; if they did elope it would be to our county's civil hall. They've been living together since the summer before I left for college, a de-facto sort of marriage since they do intend to grow old together, so this would just formalize matters. Linda needs a foot operation, but her insurance won't cover it, so... she and Dad are getting married. Not very romantic, but necessary nevertheless.
Linda actually has a history of eloping- she eloped without telling anyone in either her or Patrick's families when she had her first marriage- but this time, both of them are checking with their kids first.
