I went in to the cities today to look at apartments. I now have an application to live in one place which is nicely situated. My conclusions:
-Basically, every studio looks about the same and costs about the same.
-Most places, even if they advertise themselves as such on apartments.com, don't have air conditioners. What they mean is that it's possible to get a window unit.
-There are lots of apartment buildings in Minneapolis with vacancies. Even if this particular application doesn't go through--and there's no reason it shouldn't-- there will always be another, about equivalent studio.

I also had a wonderful lunch, a spinach wrap, at a Somali restaurant. There's something about ethnic restaurants and the smell of ethnic cuisine wafting out into the streets which screams "civilization" to me. Silly San Franciscan upbringing. I also picked up a few magazines, to look at real estate/jobs/ volunteer opportunities and it’s pretty exciting: all the opportunities of living in a culturally vibrant city center! And, independent bookstores! It’s also damnably scary. I’ll be on my own, not knowing almost anyone, running the risk of just spending lots of time by myself in my apartment, etc.
