Dad always told me never to just put my glasses on my pillow, to put them on a night stand, but did I listen? No. Or rather, I listened then, but later I forgot.

As I walked home from Uptown today, guided by traffic lights, the world exceedingly fuzzy around the edges, I had definite cause to contemplate my own idiocy. Thursday night, I had taken off my glasses as I drifted off to sleep and put them on the pillow next to me. Later that evening, or the next morning, when I fell back into bed after a late-night bathroon trip, I landed on my glasses. It hurt me, but it hurt my glasses more. It deformed the joint that joins the glasses to the right earhook. I could still wear my glasses, but the right..pole? earhook? was certainly out of whack. Today, while I was running errands, I stopped in to a glasses store and asked the woman there if she could repair them. She tried to repair them, but concluded that they were beyond repair. The next time something struck that joint, it was nearly a given that the glasses would fall apart. She said I could buy new frames there, where the frames were 50% off, and just get my current lenses ground down to size. I ultimately decided to do that to save money and time, even though the frames there were smaller than I like. I ultimately found a nice pair that was not too small. They are a nice compromise between what Erica always told me, that small glasses worked because they were close to your eyes, and my own fear of having glasses beneath my brow, where flying objects and general klutzyness can endanger the eye's structural integrity, causing fun things like near-blindness. Luckily, the whole replacement process only cost about $100. It could have been much worse. I'll post pictures once I've (a) picked up the new pair of glasses and (b) figured out how to work my digital camera, a late graduation gift.

Let that be a lesson to me: no more putting my glasses on my pillow. No more jumping on my glasses in general. Not that I've ever done it before in the 17 years I've worn glasses, but it's still a sound principal.

In other news, I got a great many errands run today by effecient time management. Go me!
