Good weekend. I saw Brokeback Mountain Friday night. The performances and the scenery were powerful, but it was also really long and really slow and full of pain. Oh, the pain! I went back to the same building in Dupont Circle where I'd seen the movie the next day to conduct alumni interviews. I really enjoyed meeting my interviewees.
The rest of the weekend was spent resting, which I needed to do after orientation and the job search. There have been uncharacteristically strong winds for the DC area, up to 45 or 55 mph, so I haven't wanted to fight the wind to go anywhere. It made some impressive booming noises against the large window in my room. The deadlines for submitting applications for all of the rest of the jobs I've been interested in have passed with the exception of a part-time job at the American Association of Museums, and I'd really prefer not to have to do some sort of crazy and exhausting two-job juggling at this point in my life, so I'm hoping I get the Active Minds position.
I've been inspired by the holiday letters I've received from
glitterkiss42 and Kelly Tolle--as well as the sheer number of people that I haven't been in contact with but really should--to write a holiday letter. I've been writing it, and it's hard to strike the right balance between lively and uncontroversial. It's also hard to know if or how I want to send it snail mail or via email and if I want to do a photo. I certainly owe my grandparents, assorted aunts and uncles, and step-relatives a photo.
