I just started reading a biography of James Beard. This is what happens when I work in a bookstore and catalogue and reshelve tempting books all day. I had to rush out to Arlington Central library to satisfy my booklust, or else risk spending more than just spending money on all the lovely books I'd like to read. After leaving the library, I got this very filling cream soup and bread for dinner, and as the pages accumulated lists of filling and delectable, albeit non-vegetarian, foods, I could feel the wonderful weight of the food in my stomach increasing.
my_sihaya, you might enjoy this book, James Beard by Robert Clark, if you haven't read or heard about it already. His writing isn't particularly responsible biography, but learning about the lives of Beard and his mother is worth it.
In the world of news of the serious variety, I've decided that I really need to research the arts organizations and employment opportunities in Seattle and to a lesser extent Portland and come to a decision about where the heck I'm going to move by Friday. I've been in this holding pattern for a month and a half, primarily researching short-term jobs in DC rather than permanent jobs in Seattle and Minneapolis (and maybe Portland), and it doesn't make sense to add more short-term jobs to my resume when employers want someone who will be around for at least a few years. There's a lot of stuff churning around in my mind about DC and why I want to leave, and lots of other stuff churning around as well, but this is all that I have the energy or patience to write right now.
