Miller Analogies Test vs. the GRE
Nov. 12th, 2006 01:46 pmSo I was looking at the difference between the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) and the GRE, which are the two tests accepted by the program at St. Thomas. The GRE seems rather like the SAT: a nearly four hour long ordeal of a test requiring lots of studying and test strategies. In contrast, the MAT is weeeiird and exceedingly culturally biased. It's 120 "analogies" (using the term analogy quite loosely) which have to be completed in 60 minutes and tests not only general ability to solve analogies but also cultural knowledge (Frost : Poetry :: Miller : (a. grain, b. drama, c. literature, d. bard)). It seems almost criminally fun in comparison with the GRE. Here's to going to grad school in the humanities!
