Mother's Day
May. 11th, 2007 07:11 pmI just got a call from my mother. She recently returned from a three week bicycling trip in Bhutan--the trip of a lifetime, as she described to me when she called on my birthday. Halfway through her trip, she fell while riding across a slatted bridge and got identical bilateral fractures on both right ancles (There are ancles on both sides of both of your legs. The idea of both right ancles can be confusing.). She got some form of adaquate treatment there, and spent the second half of her trip and the trip home on crutches. The recent call was from the surgery table. Apparently one of the trends in surgery now is to apply some form of local anesthetic or epidural and, since the patient is concious, distract them by letting them make phone calls.
Let my mother stand as prof that mothers can do anything.

my_sihaya posted about it, and I was curious to see if there was anyone from Minneapolis on it. I could certainly use making some book-loving friends in Minneapolis, and anyway, it almost seems like if I use it regularly, it would be a good way of keeping track of what I've been reading.
