Fascism today was bizarre. We all had to report what we were doing for our paper. Theoretically in seminars, we are supposed to be in dialogue with each other, but instead, we each went around and said what we were doing and Diet either suggested sources or went off on a ten minute long tangent about the background of the authors we were using. This, for almost two hours. For most of the time, the two guys on either side of me were doing that annoying pen twirl-and-clicking between the fingers thing. People twiddled their thumbs. One girl, with a bare naval, actually contemplated it. Another girl, in a spur of moment decision to add theoretical umph to her paper, decided that since Diet likes Hannah Arendt, she should add Hannah Arendt in to her paper on resistance. Arendt has almost nothing to say on the subject.
My dad left a message on the message machine speculating that since I've lived through Ventura and Schwartenegger, wherever I move now, some celebrity will become a politician. Erica speculated that I would have to move to Canada and Celine Dion would have to become prime minister.
