Jan. 6th, 2004 04:16 pmIt's so strange when you first find out that someone you know has died. In this case, Beth Brinda. A girl I had France in the Making with last term, and who is friends with some of the Sci-Fi house sophomores. My major memories of her is her in class, arguing with what Nathan, her boyfriend, had just said. There is something endearing about people who are close friends, or involved, having an intellectual argument, because their arguments are tinged with familiarity, and with an awareness of the other persons faults, and with forgiveness for those faults. There will be a memorial at 5:00 and it feels very wrong that Bill North won't be there to speak (she and Nathan are/were Medieval and Renaissance Studies concentrators).
I found out from Derek right before I left for the bookstore to get my statistics textbook. There's something about walking familiar paths and meditating on the fact that someone you knew, even tangentially, is gone from this world.
