Movie and Book Recommendation
Jan. 2nd, 2005 08:30 amIf you're ever in the mood to see the plot of Macbeth made into a very bizarre, modern day comedy, I recommend Scotland, Pa. Giving away any of the other details would rob this movie of its surprise. Please note that a mood to see the plot of Macbeth transformed into a comedy is a very strange mood indeed.
One of my purchases at Green Apple was Ex Libris by Anne Fadiman (familiar to my fellow Carleton class of '04 as the author of The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, our common reading). It's a slim volume of essays she wrote about her particular brand of bibliophilia. I read it in one cozy afternoon under a blanket, listening to the rain outside. It's a lovely book about books.
I'm still reading Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. It's an ingenious book, but it's taking forever.
