Aug. 26th, 2005 05:15 pmI've started listening to a customizable radio station that I created on Yahoo Music and it's improved my workplace contentment five-fold. You too can listen in to my radio station (the play list does actually sort of resemble the radio show that Lucy and I had on KRLX) on yahoo music by typing in my yahoo tag if you are so inclined. It's amazing how well Yahoo music is able to predict my tastes given enough feedback about specific artists--knowing that I like Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown, it played "Factory Girl" by Ryan Adams, which is one of my all-time favorite songs, but certainly not a common one.
The character of my workplace environment is changing substantially with the departure of many of my previous co-workers, including the office's only guy. Now it's all girls, some of whom are slightly more party girl-ish than the people whose places they are taking. They discuss, goodness!, boys and dates and chocolate and menstrual symptoms with much more alacrity and frequency than used to happen. It's interesting in the short-term, but I'm pretty certain I don't approve as a long-term trend. My role at the organization is changing substantially too--suddenly I'm a senior VISTA.
