Morning. A.'s roommate's nice cat, Tatiana (as opposed to the evil one, Elisar), now recognizes me (I think) and knows that I frequently provide pettings, particularly scratchings under the chin. Therefore, she feels no compunction in meowing and rubbing at me constantly, until I pet her (I checked and the food bowl had food). Sometimes I yield. I was clearly not born to be a cat disciplinarian (if cat disciplinarians ever do any good and/or if cats ever do anything but what they want).

Yesterday was a good day. I went down to Midtown Global Market, which is in that large building right near Uncle Hugo's. It's wonderful, kind of a yuppie/hipster paradise of ethnic food stands and grocery stores and imported goods. There's a lots of Mexican food, but also various forms of asian and peruvian and scandinavian and american food. I went to Everest, which is a Tibetan (or maybe Nepali...) place and had spinach dumplings and good chai, and bought sesame crisps from the United Noodles outpost, and Turkish delight from a Middle Eastern grocery, and three small red bell peppers for $1 from a grocery store with farmer's market prices. It's supposed to draw on all of the good things immigrants have brought the Lake street area, and Minnesota more broadly, and it certainly does. It's crowded on weekends, and is really more or less a mall/food court, but it's worth it. I highly encourage anyone going by Uncle Hugo's, or in the area, to try it out.

Then I saw Robert's Shoe store on the corner, and went to look into it, and ended up buying winter boots for a good price from a hunch-backed, kindly man who was probably in his 80s. [livejournal.com profile] effani, I know you were looking for a good shoe place to buy work shoes. If you haven't yet bought them, I encourage you to head down there. I think it might even be a non-chain shoe store. It's been there for something like 59 years.

Later in the day, I met A. and went to M. and K.'s for dinner and gaming. They made this crazy enchilada recipe and we played Tikal, which was neat. Driving back to A.'s, M. realized that they had been meaning to give me K.'s bicycle. So A. and M. bungy-corded the bicycle (It's a Huffy bicycle. As in, rhymes with Buffy. Seriously.) into the back to the car, and now the plan for today is that I learn to ride a bicycle. (Yes, I don't know how to ride a bicycle. My mother got into some bicycle accidents that traumatized me when I was younger.) So, excitement.
