We had a nice dinner with Cecilia and Sarah, the visiting Swedes, last night. They left early this morning. Diana, my step-sister, is showing up today.

The visiting Swedes had, as it turns out, contracted fleas in Chile rather than fleece. It wasn't a problem because a turn in an American-style washing machine gets fleas out of clothing and bed sheets. This strikes me as valuable information to have if you or anyone you know is likely to travel to a third world country. Or a forest.

I had a strange dream last night that I was standind on the edge of a mixing bowl- I don't know if I had been miniturized or if the bowl and contents had been expanded. But when I fell in, the bowl contained a apple juice and sour cream. Suddenly this blender came down from the sky and started blending the apple juice and sour cream into this clotted mixture. Then the bowl toppled over and I was on a counter, in lights, staring out at the audience of a cooking show. End of dream.

We always had more trouble than that getting rid of fleas when our pets contracted them. I believe it's lanolin that they can't stand--putting a little bit in the wash always made getting rid of them quicker. Either lanolin or peppermint oil...
