The job search sucks. I hate searching through all of these databases. I get excited about something promising and then read further and find it requires a year, or two, or five, of experience I don't have.

Everything else I've been doing, however, is quite enjoyable. Reading, watching videos, walking around the city on errands, cooking. My air conditioner is now installed, so my room is very comfortable. The rain encourages me to stay inside. My reading is kind of sporatic. I pick things up for a day, put them down, and forget about them. I've been rereading "Juniper, Gentian, and Rosemary" by Pamela Dean and The Tempest and reading "Invitation to a Beheading" by Nabakov for the first time, which I like enough that I'm probably in danger of going on a Nabakov reading spree. Since I'm already on a Lois McMaster Bujold reading spree, this could be a problem. I read a short story in a Thurber-esque vein at the library yesterday, about a philosophy professor and a rhinoceros who claims to be a unicorn. It's by Peter Beagle, in an anthology about unicorns, if anyone is interested.

This weekend should be a big deal. I'm volenteering at the Basilica Block Party, and going to a reading at Uncle Hugo's by Naomi Kritzer(another Carleton alum fantasy writer). There's also the Twin Cities Book Fair. If I had any sense, I'd stay away from it, but I imagine I will somehow find myself on the way to it. I wanted to volenteer Friday night, when the Counting Crows are playing, but instead I got Saturday night, which does feature the Pat McGhee Band, Five for Fighting, and Shawn Mullins.
