And my favorite election day story so far.. a republican poll watcher challenged a group of eight women from a battered women's home because they didn't give their location (battered women's homes, in case you don't know, like their locations to remain secret in case the abusers should come trailing after the women inside).

That seems like a fairly valid reason to challenge whether you agree with the reason for secrecy or not.

All citizens of the US have a right to vote. Period. It overrides a lot of other concerns. That's why citizens who have been in their place of residence for less than twenty days are allowed to have another resident of the precinct vouch for them. If people can't reveal their place of residence because of safety reasons, they still have a right to vote. The eight women from the abused women's shelter, by the way, did suceed in their case.

That's not true. Convicted felons don't have a right to vote.

And it's necessary that some people be challenged to ensure that the right to vote is protected for those that do have it. It helps keep people from voting in multiple locations which hurts the democratic process. I'm glad those eight women succeeded and were allowed to vote, but I'm also glad that people who refuse to reveal their location are at least given more scrutiny than others before being allowed to vote.
