... and yet when I finally have time to report--on a Friday night, you will note-- I don't actually have that much to report except that I have a very busy life. It's difficult to run errands when you carpool to and from work and once you get home after the sun sets, it isn't a good idea to go out walking to the local stores. So I either run errands after work and then have to spend a long time taking the metro and then the bus home, or else all the errands get pushed to the weekend, so I have an active weekend. Work is hectic because we are preparing and revamping two manuals, for staff and for our partners, and preparing to start orientation for the next batch of VISTAs.
I went to Miami for my grandfather's 90th birthday last weekend. My family is certainly long-lived. I'm the only person my age I know all of whose grandparents are still alive. There were fully four family members, blood relatives of mine, who were 90 years old or above. My 94 year old great aunt Sarah was still well enough to travel down to Florida for the occasion. Much of the time that weekend was spent adoring and amusing my cousin Aimee's son, Brandon, who is my Grandfather's first great-grandson, and quite adorable. My father directed something about wanting grandchildren at me, then allowing that I was allowed to get married first. There's a big singles "scene" in DC, but I certainly haven't had time to go out and socialize with anyone I don't know yet, barring family friends. I'm also pretty certain that I don't want to participate in a scene, but it is getting time for me to have a relationship, so I can have relationships and ultimately have a family. Man, now I'm starting to sound like phoenix_talon. I must needs get involved in some sort of club, much as I must needs find some sort of work-out place, but the problem is finding the time, particularly given the time it takes me to get anywhere on public transit.
I wish there were something more whimsical I could put in this update, but alas, it is true, having an adult job leaves less time for whimsy or imagination.
