levertovfanMy boss had some qualms about putting me in the same office as my officemate, but since two VISTAs, Katie and China, already get along so well as officemates and have a hot pink-painted office that it would burn anyone else’s eyes to work in, and since another VISTA, Deepak, had to be moved to be in the same room as the incoming VISTA (Renee) who would be working on the website, my boss placed me with Angela. Well, we are, as Jen (my boss) noted, very different. But there is one thing in which we are blindingly similar: we are both prone to fits of hysterical laughter when we've been working for a long, intense periods of time. We have compatible senses of humor-- we're still working on "getting" each other's sense of humor, but then when we get it, it is, as they say, "all good". Today was pretty funny.
I'm pretty nervous about the Rochester training that is coming up on Saturday. I'm wearing a business suit, flying to Rochester, there to give a three hour (three hours! have you ever stood in one place and lectured for three hours straight? I haven't) training teaching 25 board members of a partner organization how to implement Youth Venture in their organization, and then flying back. Yee gads. Then next week comes the next VISTA training. Due to a variety of forseeable and unforseeable circumstances, it's just going to be Katie and I who will be there in the office the entire time... other people will be in and out, but the brunt of it is falling on Katie. I'll try to support her the whole time, but hope I don't get in the way, what with my five whole weeks of Youth Venture experience.
I am talking to Derek online. It is good to touch base with people "back home" in MN. It's a problem that I rarely have the time or energy to really have conversations on IM. I do read livejournal, but I want to interact with you guys! I'm nearly done with a round of snail mail cards that I'm sending out to Carls who don't read livejournal or regularly hear from me in some other form... The last one, with the address made out to Erica but nothing else yet written, has been riding around in my purse for the last week. Maybe I should do that with you guys. (Yes! Make you ride around in my purse! Little miniature versions of each and every one of you! That would be lovely!)
EDIT: Since I ended my conversation with Derek explaining that I had to shower about half an hour ago, I should explain to Derek that livejournal was in read-only mode then, so I had to post after I had my shower.
Also, I'm slowly figuring out that at least one of my boxes was lost during the move... it was a box that contained clothing, which is unfortunate since (a) I need to dress "business casual" and I don't have enough clothing to maintain that in this weather without doing laundry every four days, (b) I dislike shopping for new clothing and (c) I lost my communist world tour t-shirt, which is (1) a souvenir of a crazy day spent traipsing around the Budapest countryside and (2) a great t-shirt. I mean, who doesn't like a girl with pictures of Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin and Marx splayed across her chest?
