I had an excellent Halloween. Yesterday afternoon, Melissa, Gudrun and I took VISTA time to wander through the Eastern Market area and enjoy crisp fall weather and see the decorations on peoples' lawns. That evening, [livejournal.com profile] zenpenguin and [livejournal.com profile] halfsparkle came over. They made a dramatic entrance, not just because they were dressed in dramatic costumes, but because I was expecting a call from them to get into the building and then heard knocking at the door and expected it was Yukie, my roommate, at the door and them on the phone. But when I opened the door, there stood [livejournal.com profile] zenpenguin and [livejournal.com profile] halfsparkle framed in the doorway like a demented American Gothic with a wand in the place of a pitchfork, and it was Yukie on the phone.

Seth and Kira, I think at some point "like a demented American gothic" has to be your motto.

In any case, we played two rounds of Settlers of Catan and watched A Very Merry Muppet Christmas, which [livejournal.com profile] tudhalias once recorded for me for a holiday gift. [livejournal.com profile] tudhalias, your gift is still used and appreciated and very much enjoyed. There are many bits in A Very Merry Muppet Christmas that somehow hit the spot, even for a Halloween movie, particularly the Gift of the Magi take-offs and the Grinch Who Stole Christmas action sequence. They're scary, in a goofy, wonderful, huggable Muppets way. And it was nice to just sort of be random with Kira and Seth as we were playing Settlers and make puns and make beeping, murping noises at each other--a wonderful reminder of the way people interacted at Benton. I haven't been able to do that with most people I've met in the real world.

Anywho, thank you, Seth and Kira, for coming over.

You're welcome! We had fun too. And I like the "demented American Gothic" idea as our motto.

Glad to hear that my gift continues to bring non-secular merchandizable holiday cheer. Have you heard about "America's Next Muppet"?

"Some reports even say that Disney is working to make the show “interactive” by allowing viewers to vote for their favorite characters in that week’s episode." Wow. A Muppets reality show. It could be funny, or it could signal the end of the Muppets as we now know them. I'm a little disturbed that there will be so many new muppets on this show, and possibly then less time to devote to the muppets we know and love.
